Alpes-Provence-Cote D’Azur is composed of six departments, all located in the southeastern part of the country. These departments are Var, Vaucluse, Bouches0du-Rhone, Haute-Alpes, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, and Alpes-Maritimes. The capital of Alpes-Provence-Cote D’Azur (also called Provence-Alpes-Cote D’Azur or PACA) is Marseille in the department of Bouches-du-Rhone.
Marseille makes Bouches-du-Rhone one of the more important departments in the country, as this city is actually the third largest metropolitan area in the country, next to Paris and Lyon. Aesthetically, it is also among the most visually pleasing, considering that many movies are set in this picturesque city, including the recent The Transporter 3 starring Jason Statham and the hit romantic-comedy film Love Actually.
Of course, Bouches-du-Rhone is not shabby either, with its Mediterranean climate that tourists (especially those from colder countries) absolutely adore. This department is home to a number of Roman monuments (specifically in Arles), the Saint-Remy-de-Provence, and the Salon-de-Provence (known not only for its textured attractions but also for its famous resident, Nostradamus). The Alpilles mountain range is also located in this area.
The Alpes-de-Haute-Provence is also an amazing and extremely popular department in this region. Among the attractions here are the Digne-les-Bains (a famed hot springs town, the town where the novel Les Miserables began) and the Verdon Gorge (the second largest canyon in the world), among others. Meanwhile, Alpes-Provence-Cote D’Azur’s Var is known for its beaches (such as the ones in Cavalaire-sur-Mer, Saint-Tropez, and Toulon), as well as for the Frejus Cathedral (the oldest cathedral and Christian structure in the region of Provence) and the Lles d’Heyeres, a natural underwater part. It also has numerous hilltop villages. The Haute-Alpes, as one might expect, is a popular winter destination, a destination for locals and tourists who enjoy winter and aerial sports, among others.
Without a doubt, the Alpes-Provence-Cote D’Azur is not only significant in terms of economic standings as far as the country is concerned. The attractions, natural wonders, and cultural sites of Alpes-Provence-Cote D’Azur are also topnotch.
