Everyone knows that France is the top tourist destination in the world. Therefore, it goes without saying that everyone is familiar with the country. But while France is a familiar and famed country all over the world, what people know about France may be rather limited.
For instance, if you ask anyone with an average knowledge of world geography why people go to France, his or her answer would definitely be Paris. But ask him about Lyons, the second most prominent city (in terms of economic standing, among others) in the country, and for sure he would not be able to say a word. This is because the world’s knowledge of France is limited to the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, the Versailles. Some may know a little about Cannes or the Mediterranean region of the country, but these people would be a rare few.
What people do not know is that France is divided into 22 regions. Paris, the country’s capital, is located in Ile-de-France, translated to English as “Island of France.” Mostly, Ile-de-France is composed of the metropolitan area of Paris. But there is beauty beyond Ile-de-France. And one of these beauties is Alpes-Provence-Cote D’Azur.
